What we do — infrastructure with intent

We fund and deliver essential systems: clinics, clean-water networks, renewable microgrids, broadband links, and schools. We pair hardware with software. In practice, that means deploying solar microgrids and edge data centres alongside training programmes for local technicians. We design projects so communities gain lasting control over services.
Moreover, we prioritise places that have too often been left behind. Today United Commons runs active programmes in more than 70 countries, with major efforts across Africa and Southeast Asia. We focus on rural districts, peri-urban settlements, and island communities where basic infrastructure either fails or never existed.
Gabriel AI at the service of people

Gabriel AI provides the intelligence that makes our systems adaptive and reliable. We have deployed over 10 exabytes of Gabriel-processed data to power clinical decision support, water management, and energy optimisation in the field. For example:
- In Egypt, our United Vitalis team integrated Gabriel-backed EHR modules into pilot hospitals. Clinicians now access diagnostic guidance and streamlined patient records. As a result, diagnosis times for complex cases dropped substantially in early trials.
- In Lagos and coastal communities, Gabriel coordinates microgrid dispatch and routes excess compute capacity to nearby clinics and schools when demand falls. This arrangement stabilises local power while expanding digital access.
Our approach places the model close to users. We run secure edge nodes in regional data centres, and we train local engineers to operate and audit the systems.
Finance that aligns incentives — HTC and local value
We use Hashtag Coin (HTC) to align funding, delivery and long-term stewardship. Communities and partners buy or earn HTC credits to access services. When projects produce revenue or savings, a share flows back to local development funds. For example, pilot mining projects allocate a fixed percentage of HTC proceeds to village infrastructure and health clinics.
Consequently, financing travels with outcomes. Investors see traceable performance; communities gain recurring resources. We also accept traditional funding and grant support — HTC complements, rather than replaces, existing finance channels.
Free technologies for verified digital citizens

United Commons distributes core medical and sanitation technologies free to verified local users. Verification follows transparent, privacy-first protocols. Once a resident registers as a verified digital citizen, they may receive mobile-health tools, water-purification kits, or credits for community energy use. We take care to protect identities using strong encryption and audit logs so individuals retain control of their data.
Capacity building — people first, always
Infrastructure alone cannot deliver change. Therefore, we pair deployments with training and scholarships. Our Global Skills Initiative funds vocational courses from Cape Town to Cambridge. We support local universities and technical schools to teach AI maintenance, renewable energy engineering and digital health care. In addition, we fund women-led entrepreneurship programmes to foster inclusive growth.
Community governance and transparency
We give communities the tools to govern projects locally. Each deployment includes a community oversight board that sets usage rules and reviews performance reports.
